Recently, several A-list celebrities have opened up about their health struggles.

Emmy-winning actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus took to Twitter on Thursday revealing she has breast cancer. The “Veep” star’s tweet said, “1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one.”

Selena Gomez made huge news several weeks ago when she told the world on Instagram that she had a kidney transplant over the summer due to lupus.

Also, Grammy Award-winning singer Lady Gaga, just a week ago, revealed the real reason why she cancelled the European leg of her tour. The 31-year-old cited chronic pain caused by fibromyalgia.

While we would never wish a debilitating diagnosis on anyone, it’s also reassuring to see celebrities being forthcoming about the diseases that sometimes set them back.

Whether it be cancer, autoimmune disorders or mental illness, many celebrities turn to social media to share their experiences and often become advocates for others who share the same illness.
