Chris Hemsworth is showing his home country a lot of love, attending several red carpets in Australia for the release of the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.
The star will walk the red carpet for the film’s Australian premiere on the Gold Coast, where it was largely filmed and then head to Sydney for another red carpet premiere this time with his co-star Mark Ruffalo.
Hemsworth, who lives in Byron Bay, and the film’s director, Taika Waititi, will attend both Australian premieres next month while Ruffalo has just been confirmed for the red carpet in Sydney .
In the Marvel universe, this will be Hemsworth’s fifth time playing the hammer-wielding Norse god, both in The Avengers movies and in the two previous stand-alone Thor films.
The latest Marvel Comics movie will follow Thor as he tries to stop the destruction of his home world Asgard, which is under threat from Hela the Goddess of Death played by Cate Blanchett.
The film also stars Ruffalo as the Hulk and Idris Elba as Heimdall, another Norse god. Tom Hiddleston also returns as Thor’s estranged brother Loki.
Filming started last year, predominantly on the Gold Coast at Village Roadshow Studios, with Brisbane CBD standing in for New York.
* The Australian premiere of Thor: Ragnarok will take place on October 13 at Event Cinemas Robina on the Gold Coast. The Sydney premiere will take place on October 15 at Hoyts Cinema at the Entertainment Quarter.
